‘Trying is lying’

We often use the word ‘try’ in our everyday language. On the surface try seems like a positive word because it means ‘have a go’. Now take a look at some of the following statements. How positive do the outcomes look to you with the word try in them?

“I’m very busy but I’ll ‘try’ to come round after I’m done”
“I’m going to ‘try’ and fit an extra session in at the gym this week”
“I’ll ‘try’ to get that done for you but I’ve got so much work on at the moment”
“I’ll ‘try’ to think more positively in the future”

If people ‘try’ to do something for you and let you down it’s easy to forgive them because at least they tried. It’s also easier to forgive yourself for failure if you use the word try because it least you tried!

Any hypnotist will tell you that they use the word ‘try’ to set their subject up to fail a test. If you’ve been hypnotised before you may recall them saying “try to open your eyes and notice they remain closed” or “try to lift you hand but notice it’s stuck and the harder you try to lift it the harder it sticks”

Now you aware of how using the try word sets you up for failure, think about how often you use it in your life and in what situations.

Now look at the first statements again with ‘will’ substituted for ‘try’and see how the outcome’s look different;

“I’m very busy but I will come round after I’m done”
“I will fit an extra session in at the gym this week”
“I Have got so much work on at the moment but I will do that for you”
“I will think more positively in the future”

Also if you want someone to do something for you don’t accept the ‘try’ word. Get them to commit by using the ‘will’ word so they are more likely to do it.
So be aware of the word ‘try’ because quite often ‘trying is lying’
